About this deal

i understand that this is a YA novel and that the intended audience for YA is slightly younger than myself, but here’s the thing. i won a school wide game of assassin in 10th grade (so im pretty obsessed with it) and i cant remember ever reading about it in a book. Not only are they exceptionally close, but they have the best ways of having summer fun, spending excitement-filled days at Martha’s Vineyard, playing their annual game of Assassin. And as the week progresses, she realizes she's not only at risk of losing the game, but also her heart. We’re Marie (she/her) and Nyx (she/her), two sisters screaming about books at each other and now with you, too.

This BookTok sensation is perfect for fans of Jenny Han's The Summer I Turned Pretty and Sarah Dessen's Along for the Ride. I love all things autumnal and baking year-round, plus I adore cats with a passion (because who doesn't? grow up what is this, i can’t imagine saying that to my best friend- and the fact that meredith thinks luli never apologises so it’s okay? But after channelling courage from her much-loved and missed sister, Meredith makes a decision for her own happiness that changes the course of her carefully thought plans. L. Walther bottled up summer, used a water gun to spritz/soak each page with it, and then finally let it dry onto the pages of her book!

Everyone who RSVP’d that they wanted to play is assigned a target, and there are only three rules to the game: (1) The game is active 24 hours a day, and eliminations can happen at any time; (2) all eliminations must occur outside, and “outside” is defined as being a minimum distance of 10 feet away from a door; and (3) no eliminations are to interfere with official wedding events. L. Walther was born and raised in the rolling hills of Bucks County, Pennsylvania surrounded by family, dogs, and books. The setting in this book was described absolutely beautifully and it was one of my favorite things about it. The mix of budding romance, competitive hijinks, a close-knit circle, as well as dealing with loss make for a satisfying read.

To be fair, at that point I couldn't care less about the characters or anything, but it was still surprising and a little odd.The game of Assassin they played was so fun and kept the book moving and the romance was wholesome and sweet. But when she forms an alliance with a cute groomsman, she's at risk of losing both the game… and her heart.

everyone is helping each other to create the perfect wedding and even in basic days there is always this connection between them where one of them sets the table, other prepares the meal, another one takes care of kids where the other goes to market for missing things- it’s just that perfect big family. Purchasing via these links will not cost you any extra and will help me cover the costs of book blogging. It was lovely to see her grow, to see her take accountability for her own actions in the past with her friends, to see her try to live, as much as possible, as wildly, as happily as possible, too as the story goes on. and duality she is going through, she grieves for her sister so she pushes her friends but holds onto her ex, which who doesn’t know her sister. What I loved above all else was the MOST AMAZING summer vacation game – truly, I’m not exaggerating.

She's determined to not let herself get distracted, not let herself be lost in another doomed relationship. The fun, happiness, focusing on working as truly functional family as their eyes on the prize perfectly balance with sadness and grief they feel inside. Although the two are quickly attracted to one another, both are faced with the reality that they will have to separate at the end of the week—Meredith to go to college and Wit to go on his adventure to New Zealand. I liked seeing these big family dynamics, how everyone’s relationship was different, I loved seeing Meredith with her grandparents and more. I think it shows that everyday we can open our eyes to things we didn’t realize about ourselves, and what we want.

Overall, The Summer of Broken Rules waltzed into my life, and like in Assassin, shot me straight in the heart, putting me under it’s spell. meredith; that precious girl heard compliments for her looks for her entire life, including her ex only complimenting to her external beauty, so she is tired of hearing that words and wants to be loved by her personality.

I also loved that this book isn't just a light romance, but it also has a ton of depth and follows the main character dealing with the loss of her sister. Quick Thoughts: Family-oriented, Pinterest-wedding, YA romance with all the feels for an end of summer read. it might be seem like a spoiled girl behavior but i can assure you it’s not, she just wants to be seen by her intelligence, interests and thoughts. About the book: Meredith Fox has been going to Martha’s Vineyard for the summer as long as she can remember.
